Reflective practice is more than an administrative task; it is a vital, compassionate space to pause and make meaning of the emotional weight of your work. This one-hour session helps you move beneath the surface of daily tasks to cultivate the self-awareness, clarity, and empathy needed for sustainable, trauma-informed practice.
This session explores reflective practice as a core part of trauma-informed work, not as an administrative task, but as a compassionate space to pause, notice, and make meaning of the work we do. Trauma-informed reflective practice supports emotional safety, deepens self-awareness, and strengthens our ability to respond with empathy, curiosity, and clarity.
Reflective practice helps us understand what’s happening beneath the surface: our feelings, assumptions, biases, and the emotional impact of the work. When we reflect well, we improve the quality of our relationships, decision-making, and wellbeing.
This is a self-paced session, you can complete it at your own pace, pausing whenever something resonates or needs more time.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Understand what reflective practice means in trauma-informed work.
• Recognise how reflective practice differs across the helping professions
• Recognise why reflection supports safer, more compassionate practice.
• Identify barriers to reflection — such as time, fear, or organisational cultureExplore your own emotional responses to practice situations.
• Identify one small, practical action to strengthen reflective practice in your role
