Trauma-Informed Communication - Level 1

This session explores communication as a core part of trauma-informed practice, not just the words we use, but the tone, pacing, body language, and relational signals that shape how safe people feel with us. Communication is where trust is built (or lost), where power is felt, and where people decide whether it is safe enough to share their experiences, ask for help, or express their needs.

Trauma can influence how people interpret tone, respond to questions, or communicate their own feelings. Misunderstandings can happen easily when someone is overwhelmed, frozen, shut down, or trying to keep themselves safe. Trauma-informed communication invites us to slow down, become more aware of our impact, and create interactions that feel predictable, respectful, and grounding.

In this session, you’ll explore what helps communication feel safe and supportive, recognise how trauma shows up in everyday interactions, and reflect on your own communication style,  including what helps, what gets in the way, and what you’d like to develop further.

This is a self-paced session, you can complete it in your own time, pausing whenever you need to reflect or rest.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

•⁠ ⁠Take one practical step toward more trauma-informed communication in your role
