Trauma Informed Clinical Supervision is an essential element of effective Trauma Informed Practice.
Here at TICS we provide Trauma Informed Clinical Supervision to a range of sectors including
Education, Health, Adult and Children’s Social Care and Therapeutic Services.

Our model is one of exploration and reflections on trauma symptomology with professionals, focused on personal and professional development and wellbeing through a trauma informed lens. We work to address the risks associated with vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout for those working frontline with some of the most traumatised individuals and within traumatised systems.

Through this psycho-educative model we aim to re-resource and refresh professionals in order for them to
continue to provide the best of their professional selves in their very demanding roles.

For those working in child and adult protection services occupational trauma is an occupational
inevitability (Oates, 2022). In order to keep our people and our systems running smoothly, it is vital
that we provide the space for conversations and reflection.
 Trauma Informed Clinical Supervision is
far more than the typical supervision you may be used to. Trauma Informed Clinical Supervision is
about you, your own experiences of situations and your very personal needs when it comes to
creative solutions.

At TICS we have a range of qualified and highly experienced Clinical Supervisors who can work with
you, individually or in groups, focusing on both your own wellbeing and professional development.
Providing staff with Trauma Informed Clinical Supervision improves staff recruitment and retention,
reduces staff sickness and ensures safe, effective and ethical delivery of services. (Knight 2018,
Courtois 2018).

Amelia is our TICS Supervision Lead

As a qualified teacher with almost thirty years experience in the education sector, Amelia has been supervising education staff for over twelve years. She holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision and is also qualified in the Neurosequential Model of Reflective Supervision. Regulation and relationships are therefore foundational to her Clinical Supervision practice. Amelia specialises in working with adults who work directly with children and/or families who have experienced or are experiencing adversity, stress
and trauma. 

She provides Clinical Reflective Supervision to both Education staff and Third Sector Professionals working directly with challenging situations in order to promote trauma informed and responsive professional practice as well as personal and professional wellbeing. 
The supervision that Amelia has offered has been hugely beneficial in supporting not only my own mental and emotional wellbeing, but also in discussing and reflecting on key issues that arise as part of my job role. Amelia provides a relaxed, comfortable environment where key issues, incidents and concerns are addressed and reflected upon through the insightful and thought-provoking discussions that Amelia facilitates. The supervision sessions have certainly had a positive impact on whole school strategies, as well as my emotional wellbeing in terms of having ongoing opportunities to reflect in depth about all aspects of my job role.

Kate first became interested in supervision whilst working as a Primary School Learning Mentor as part of the ‘Excellence in Cities’ (EiC) initiative. Link Mentors supported Learning Mentors and developed networks to strengthen, develop and offer peer supervision to this new workforce. To continue this good practice, Kate went on to develop supervision networks, which offered peer supervision and reflective practice for staff who were often lone working in schools and to build strong relationships with multi-agency colleagues. Currently, Kate offers group and 1:2:1 supervision for practitioners working within health and education across both the children’s and adult’s workforces. She utilises a range of therapeutic and reflective tools to provide compassionate, high quality, relational and trauma informed supervision spaces for personal and professional development. Kate has a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision.
The supervision that Kate has provided has been invaluable. Both individual and group supervision has enabled the growth of clinical skills for our practitioners as well as wellbeing support. Given the amount of sensitive, often traumatic information our practitioners receive from patients, Kate has provided a regular platform for them to discuss, share and explore the impact this is having on them. As an organisation we cannot recommend Kate more highly as a clinical supervisor and we thank her for the clinical and wellbeing support that she has provided so far.

Kathryn Pierce - TICS Associate

Kathryn has worked as a speech and language therapist with children and young people with SEMH, learning difficulties and neurodiversity for 20 years. During that time she has attended numerous additional training in supervision including Befriending your nervous system, Intendem level 3 and solution focused supervision. Kathryn uses a person-centred approach to supervision drawing on experience of somatic practice and the biology of trauma. Kathryn uses the principles of attunement to explore your need in your session and what level of support you want for your work situation. Kathryn has always flown the flag for how essential supervision is to clinical practice and the amazing things we can achieve given the time and space to develop. Supervision is your space and as a supervisor Kathryn will provide the container for you to find where you want to go and how to get there.

Kathryn is brilliant! She is such a calm, knowledgeable supervisor who not only imparts her clinical expertise but has a way of supporting me, both as a person, and as a therapist to be the best for me, my family, and my clients. Kathryn has enabled me to become more confident in my clinical abilities and continues to be a great support in my SLT journey.

Steph Hunter

Stephanie has been supervising professionals for twenty years having undertaken training in clinical supervision delivered by Teesside University. She set up a highly regarded supervision and consultation provision for local authority social workers and foster carers which ran from 2002 till 2012. Stephanie has supervised the quality assurance and workforce team and and has a qualification in safeguarding supervision and chaired the safeguarding “Front Door” ensuring safeguarding quality assurance whilst a Principle Social Worker. Stephanie  is currently the Clinical Director of an independent fostering agency and supervises the fostering manager and support services manager. Stephanie’s therapeutic interest and training are Narrative therapy, Dyadic Developmental Therapy and EMDR. Areas for supervision are social workers, professionals working within the fields of CAMHS, adoption & fostering and safeguarding supervision.
I have worked with Stephanie on and off for approximately the last 15 years. She is a highly intelligent, skilled and experienced therapist. She has undertaken both supervision and training with our staff members over this time and I have always received extremely positive feedback and outcomes after any work she has done for ourselves. I must also say how kind and empathetic Stephanie is and has built excellent relationships with all the team.
