Belonging is a fundamental human need, yet for many, it is a safety they’ve had to fight for or live without. This session moves beyond surface-level inclusion to help you build spaces where everyone feels truly seen, valued, and safe enough to be their authentic selves.
This self-paced session explores what it means to belong, to feel valued, connected, and safe enough to be yourself. Belonging is a fundamental human need, yet for many people it’s something they’ve had to fight for or live without. Trauma can make belonging feel uncertain, and exclusion, even subtle exclusion, can reopen old wounds.
You’ll reflect on personal experiences of belonging and exclusion, consider the barriers that prevent people from feeling safe or included, and explore how everyday language, culture, and practice can help create spaces where everyone feels they matter. Through real examples and guided activities, you’ll identify small, consistent actions that help nurture belonging in your team, organisation, or community.
Learning is self-paced, and you can complete it in your own time, pausing whenever you need to reflect or rest.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Understand what belonging means within a trauma-informed context.
• Recognise barriers that prevent people from feeling safe, seen, and valued.
• Identify the difference between inclusion and tokenism.
• Reflect on your role in creating spaces of belonging and inclusion.
• Plan one practical action to strengthen belonging and inclusion in your setting
