EQUITY, EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

The vision of Trauma Informed Consultancy Services Ltd is that:

We educate on the impact of trauma, on the relationships between inequity and trauma, on the impact of secondary and vicarious trauma and on the capacity that we have to heal from trauma.

We work in partnership with services, systems and settings on the constructive development of ways of being that are integral to the service, system or setting. Our work is underpinned by the Trauma Informed Prinicples of Safety, Trust and Transparency, Peer Support, Collaboration, Empowerment Voice and Choice, and Cultural Humility.

We actively seek to change societal attitudes to inequity, injustice and social structures that cause trauma, add to trauma and prevent healing from trauma.

We promote healing knowledge that understands lived experience wisdom, that trauma is embodied and that trauma informed services in practice, support healing.

Equity:

Equity is the recognition that each person has different circumstances, different access to resources and lives with/without the different opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. Moving forward, it is acknowledged that social justice is the solution to addressing the imbalance of social systems.

Equality:

Equality is the understanding that there is fairness, and that we must ensure that individuals, or groups of individuals, have access to the same opportunities and the same treatment and support equally.

Diversity:

Diversity recognises, respects and celebrates each other's distinctions and characteristics representing a broad range of lived experiences, including socioeconomic background, culture, upbringing, religion, marital status, education, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, disability and other life experiences.

Inclusion:

Inclusion means creating a culture where everyone who comes into contact with the organisation feels welcome and valued. An inclusive culture can only be created once we understand that we cannot know what we have not lived, that we are more aware of our unconscious biases and when we have learned how to manage them and can support others respectfully, on this journey too.

And finally...

Trauma Informed Practice is a lens, a way of being, the way we show up in the world and the way we understand each other. It is not a folder, a box to be ticked off or a set of instructions. It is an ongoing reflective practice that centralises and contextualises the ways in which humans experience and heal from, trauma and adversity.
