THE TICS CONFERENCE

An Invitation

The term Trauma Informed Practice has now become part of the lexicon if you're engaged in working with humans. But what does it actually mean? Why is it, that we might hear people describe their practice or their organisation as 'trauma informed' and yet we still see judgement, othering and punitive approaches to distress?

This conference will open up a space, providing insights and interventions, experiential moments of somatic sensations and a felt sense of being held. As a not for profit event we have ensured that you will be cared for throughout and you will learn practices that support you in your own development journey which then directly impacts your practice with those you are working with.

Your keynote speakers are Dr Lisa Cherry and Dr Karen Treisman who you can learn more about in the downloadable brochure below.

Whether you are a teacher, a social worker, a therapist, a psychologist or anyone else directly involved in trauma care, this is for you.

Dream Big!
Trauma Informed Practice in Practice.

WHY MANCHESTER?
Like many areas across the UK, Greater Manchester has Trauma Informed and Responsive strategic initiatives in place: Manchester is actively working to become an ACE-aware, trauma-informed, and trauma-responsive city by 2027. This means there's a strong local commitment to understanding and addressing trauma and many services and settings across the city are familiar with good practice. This conference will take this knowledge a step further.
Manchester is well connected by both rail and road and boasts a superb and efficient public transport system once in the city.
The Manchester worker bee is a symbol of the city's industrious and hardworking nature. It has been associated with Manchester since the Industrial Revolution, when the city was a hive of activity with its many mills and factories. The bee represents the work ethic and community spirit of the people of Manchester.
You'll find the bee symbol all over the city, from street art to public buildings, and even on the city's coat of arms. It has also become a symbol of resilience and unity, especially after the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, when the bee was widely used to show  solidarity and support for the victims and the city.
WHY THE PEOPLE'S HISTORY MUSEUM?
Not boring or corporate’ were the instructions ringing in the ears of TICS associate, Cat Jolleys, as TICS Director, Lisa, sent her on a mission to locate a venue for TICS’ inaugural Trauma Informed Practice conference. As Cat mentally trawled through the various Manchester venues she’d attended conferences at over the years, she remembered the decidedly unboring People’s History Museum and hot footed it down there.
The PHM is a radical and inclusive museum which explores ways to make our World a fairer place, promoting compassion and empathy and housed in a Victorian pump house in the City Centre - perfect!
Chrissy and the team were warm, welcoming, flexible and seemed genuinely excited to host our Trauma Informed conference.
They know how to understand and meet everyone’s needs to access their amazing space and when the Open Kitchen catering team (the UK’s first museum cafe and social enterprise, to intercept food rather than waste it) got on board and immediately understood we wanted to feed, nourish, soothe and welcome guests with their healthy, sustainable, delicious and ethically sourced food - we knew we’d found our venue!
